New Year's Day

NZ time...1/1  5pm

Jan has a cousin Mandy who lives in Auckland and around 1pm Mandy and her daughter Reese picked us up at our hotel and drove us out along the coastal drive to Mission Bay for lunch at a beach restaurant.
After lunch, while Jan & Mandy walked and chatted, 12 year old Reese kept Mike busy playing football in the park (guess who was puffing most at the end!).

Mandy then drove us on a tour of Auckland & it was good to see areas off the tourist track. We also went to the top of Mount Eden, as well as a visit Eden Park Stadium.

Tomorrow we leave here to start our trip south, not sure how available WiFi will be for us, but we'll continue to update the blog as often as we can.

  1. Sounds like you've done lots already! Lovely you got to see Mandy after all these years too :-) We had a great time in London last night but it was chaos at Waterloo as we headed for Southbank so we had a change of plan....we jumped on a train back to the Palace and saw the New Year in at the top of the hill that overlooks the city. Was much calmer than the city!! Play was excellent and you should definitely go and watch it when you're back. Anyway....happy new year to you both and have a good trip South. Keep blogging!! Love you lots xxxxx

  3. Happy new year Grandpa and Nanny Jan, we called it day about 10.30! Dan cooked dinner for me and even baked a cake! Been nice to have time in the house with kids with both of us around but looks even more like a bombs hit it with all the Christmas goodies xxxx
