Hobart

OZ time... Thursday 2nd February... 5.30pm

Woke up to grey skies (again!) this morning, but it soon changed to sunny intervals and warm.

We decided to have a casual day today wandering around the city. Our first observation was how busy the city was compared to NZ, especially the traffic.

We started off following the city walk listed in our Lonely Planet guide. This was just right for us and we saw all the relevant areas and sights along the way. After starting in Franklin Square, we were soon around the harbour area and stopped for brunch at Mures, sitting outside overlooking the harbour. Later on we were up in the Battery Point area seeing the most historic part of Hobart, with some lovely old buildings.

In the afternoon, we got the bus out to the Cascades Brewery (the oldest in Australia) and took the one and half hour tour (Jan looked like she was interested). At the end of the tour there was the expected tasting session, where we had three tokens each....unfortunately (for Mike), Jan decided to use all her three tokens herself!

On the bus out there, Mike got talking to an older gentleman on the bus, who recommended three restaurants and a good local Pinot Noir to him...Jan later described it as "two old men talking on a bus, neither understanding what the other was on about"...Mike was not amused.

Not decided yet where to eat tonight, but apparently Mike has a recommendation!
