NZ time ...Tuesday 3rd January ...6pm
We spent today touring around the Coromandel Peninsula, which turned out to be a very enjoyable day.
We started by driving up the western side, a scenic coastal drive, arriving at Coromandel Town in time for brunch.
Then we crossed over the central rain-forest/mountain area, where it absolutely tipped down!
On the eastern side the weather was dry & warm and we made for the beach at Hahei. From this beach there is a trail that we followed to another excellent beach called Cathedral Cove. The walk took us about 45 minutes each way, it had some significant climbs (and downs!) in places along the cliff tops but there were some stunning views.
Cathedral Cove was well worth the trip, beautiful beach and unique rock formations giving it its name.
We stopped in Tairua on the way back to the motel (for a well-deserved drink) before crossing back over the central area (further south this time, but where again it tipped down!). Dry and warm now on the western side.
