Left Napier early but then DISASTER...about 25 miles out from Napier, we realised that we had left our video camera in the Napier Motel room, so back we went!....the journey to Tongariri then took about two and a half hours, with a mixture of sunshine and showers along the way.
Luckily, the weather was sunny and warm when we arrived at the Bayview Chateau hotel and in the afternoon we did a 2 hour bush walk to the Taranaki Falls, which was well worth it. However, the mountains were covered by low cloud all the time.
The hotel is very good and we have a lovely room, also the main guest lounges and other rooms are excellently presented. We had an excellent meal in the main Dining Room, complemented by a good bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
