Westport to Franz Josef

NZ time ...Tuesday 17 January...9pm

Sunny and hot again in Westport this morning. We didn't see Chris (he'd left for work before we got up!), but Jan cooked us an excellent breakfast.

Left Westport at 9.15am and arrived in Franz Josef at 4.15pm, after a few stops on the way.

First stop was at Truman's Track, a short bush walk down to a secluded beach & great views (thanks to Jan for telling us about it).

Our next stop was at the Pancake Rocks and Blow Holes. An unusual formation on the coast, interesting to see. However, the sea was not rough enough to send water through the Blow Holes! Before we left, Jan found a souvenir opportunity & Mike had another great ice cream!

We stopped at Hokitika for lunch, in a Speights bar, sitting outside in the hot sunshine. It was an attractive little town on the coast, nice to walk round.

As we neared Franz Josef, the weather changed as it started to become cloudy.

On arrival, Bernie greeted us with a warm welcome, cup of tea and some of her home-made treats (really nice!).

In the evening, we went into town forn dinner and sat outside at Speight's Landing Bar, also had a couple of beers and "savs"!. Back at B&B, there is complimentary Port waiting for us to have with our coffee!
