Westport

NZ time....Monday 16th January.... 6pm

Said goodbye to Margaret (above in her greenhouse full of super tomatoes) at the Kaikoura B&B after another wonderful breakfast, Jan loved the home made plum jam! We had been warned about "bugs" on the west coast, so (before crossing over the South Island to Westport) we went into Kaikoura town to get some strong insect repellent ....whilst in there, Jan took the opportunity for some retail therapy!

The weather today has been glorious again and the drive across the central area was very enjoyable...lots of great scenery and empty roads.
On reaching the west coast we initially made for Cape Foulwind. The views were spectacular. However, it didn't live up to its name, as it wasn't smelly or stormy!...it was breezy though.

Further along from the Cape we went to see the Seal Colony...not as good as the one on the east coast, less seals and couldn't get as close. However, did have great ice-creams by the bay below!
Arrived at our B&B around 5pm to a very warm welcome from Ian & Jan, including much appreciated tea & biscuits!

Planning to walk into town this evening for some casual dining & drinking!
