Kaikoura - Whale Watching

NZ time... Sunday 15th January... 4.30pm

YES! We watched a whale today...but just the one!

After a lovely breakfast cooked by Margaret (including eggs laid by her own chickens), we met Ben at the WW Terminal at 9.50am (Ben had managed to talk his way onto the same boat as us, after first being told our boat was fully booked!).

The weather was glorious again, hot and sunny. There was more wind today and we both took a sea-sick tablet as a precaution, but needn't have bothered, in fact the slight swell was fun (although a group of Japanese didn't like it!).
Eventually the crew located a whale by sonar means and it duly surfaced. We all "watched" it for say 15 minutes before it dived back to the deep.
We got some good pics/videos, including the final tail entry. Suspect we saw the reliable local resident whale, but still great to see in the wild. Time ran out & the crew couldn't find another whale before having to return to shore.

After lunch, Ben joined us on a drive back to the Ohau Seal Colony around 25km to the north, where we took a short bush walk to (yet) another waterfall, as well as viewing the seals again (always good entertainment).

Now back at B&B, chilling with a glass of "SAV" as they call it here!

Sorry for lack of comment lately have still been following you but not so free to reply, schools app in last week so just have to wait and see now. We both agreed on our choices and aren't doubting them so that's something!
Tried to face time you this morning thinking it wouldn't be too late for you but no answer so maybe you weren't on wifi? If you could be on wifi at 8.30 one night we could chat quickly before we leave the house in the morning (7.30am here) or if you're having an early start 6pm here, 7am with you?!
